What You'll Actually Learn

We skip the theory lectures. You'll spend your time building forecasts, analyzing variance reports, and working through scenarios that mirror what finance teams deal with daily.

01

Financial Statement Analysis

Start by reading balance sheets and income statements the way analysts do. You'll learn to spot trends, identify risk factors, and extract the numbers that matter for forecasting.

Weeks 1-6
02

Revenue Forecasting Methods

Build revenue projections using multiple approaches—trend analysis, driver-based models, and regression techniques. You'll compare methods and learn when each works best.

Weeks 7-14
03

Expense Planning & Control

Work through fixed and variable cost structures, build expense forecasts tied to business drivers, and practice creating scenarios for different growth assumptions.

Weeks 15-20
04

Cash Flow Modeling

Construct cash flow statements from scratch, forecast working capital needs, and model timing differences that trip up less experienced analysts.

Weeks 21-26
05

Variance Analysis

Compare your forecasts to actuals, identify where assumptions went wrong, and learn to adjust models based on what the data tells you.

Weeks 27-30
06

Industry Applications

Apply everything you've learned to forecasting projects in retail, manufacturing, and services. Different industries need different approaches—you'll practice adapting your methods.

Program instructor Darrell Westbrook

Darrell Westbrook

Lead Instructor & Forecasting Specialist

I spent fourteen years building financial models for companies ranging from small manufacturers to ASX-listed firms. Started as a junior analyst making plenty of forecasting mistakes, eventually leading finance teams where accurate projections meant the difference between securing funding and missing opportunities.

These days I focus on teaching because I saw too many capable people struggle with forecasting—not from lack of ability, but from learning theory instead of practice. This program reflects how I wish I'd been taught: working with real data, making mistakes in a safe environment, and building skills through repetition rather than textbooks.

Background & Approach

  • Previously FP&A Manager at Telford Industries (2016-2022)
  • Built forecasting systems for companies across retail, manufacturing, and professional services
  • Teach using actual financial statements and datasets from my consulting work
  • Focus on practical skills over certification prep
  • Available for one-on-one sessions when students hit roadblocks
